Theological Development

A suggestion regarding doctrinal development in the Middle Ages. A category many of us don’t easily recognize! Kevin Madigan is quoted to conclude:

We should be thinking, when we think of high medieval thought on the passions of Christ, therefore, not in the categories of growth, development, and modification. We should be thinking in terms of invention, novelty, and innovation.

One could argue this was a mistake, or perhaps it provides insight on how theology has actually functioned historically!
